A Black mother of three, Alex, decided to get a DNA test for her fair-skinned daughter after skeptics questioned if the child was truly hers. Alex and her husband Rob, who is white, welcomed their 2-year-old daughter, Pudge Pudge, through IVF. The couple admitted they were “surprised” by how “different” Pudge Pudge looked compared to their other two children, who have darker complexions.
“I was really surprised,” Alex shared with Truly. “Even her ears weren’t dark; they were incredibly pale!”
Because of their different skin tones, Alex mentioned that she often faces “a lot of negativity” from trolls online as well as people in her daily life.

Alex recalled a time when she was shopping at the mall with Pudge Pudge and was stopped by a staff member who remarked that “things didnโt look right” and even threatened to call security on her.
“Rob ended up handling it all for me, basically telling her to leave us alone,” she shared.
“I should be able to spend time with my child however I want!”
Alex added that she’s even faced criticism from some members of the Black community who have attacked her for being in an interracial relationship.
โIโve seen people online who seem to be Black saying I shouldnโt have โthat white manโs childโโall kinds of things,โ Alex shared.
Sheโs also been accused of “renting” Pudge Pudge as a “content baby” for social media.
Eventually, Alex decided to get a DNA test to prove Pudge Pudge was her child.
โWe went with the DNA test because she was so fair-skinned, and since we used IVF to conceive, we knew mistakes can happen,โ she explained.

Despite some backlash and uncomfortable experiences, the couple has also received an outpouring of support since sharing their story.
โAs a Black mom with a ‘white-passing’ child living in a mostly white area in Georgia, this happens every day,โ one person wrote. โBeing followed, having people listen in on our conversations, asking where her mom is, or assuming Iโm the nanny. Keep your head up, mama. Your family is beautiful.โ
Another commented, โI understand people being confused, but thereโs no excuse for rudeness. This is a sweet and beautiful family!โ
A third person chimed in, saying, โPeople are so weird. They have no idea how mixed children work. You two are doing amazing. Donโt listen to the weirdos.โ
Many others pointed out how much Pudge Pudge resembled her father.
โShe looks like daddy. People are so ignorant,โ one supportive fan commented, while another added, โShe looks EXACTLY like her dad! Thatโs so sweet. Some strong genes for sure.โ
