Eva Longoria has decided to relocate her family, citing concerns about the increasingly “dystopian” state of the United States.
In an interview with Marie Claire, Eva Longoria revealed that she and her family have chosen to split their time between Spain and Mexico, stepping away from what she referred to as a “dystopian” America.
“I’ve spent my entire adult life here,” Longoria shared, reflecting on her years in Los Angeles.
“But even before [the pandemic], things were shifting. The vibe was different. And then COVID happened, pushing it over the edge. Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes—not that I want to s**t on California—it just feels like this chapter of my life is over now,” Longoria explained.
Her comments may surprise some, considering her high-profile role as a Democrat.
However, Longoria did voice concerns about the potential implications of a second Donald Trump presidency.
“I’d like to think our fight continues,” Longoria stated, adding, “If he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place.”
Fortunately for Longoria, she won’t be living in the U.S. to face it firsthand.
Acknowledging her privilege, she admitted, “I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness are for them.”
However, Longoria has since clarified that her decision to divide her time between Mexico and Spain was not influenced by Donald Trump.
Speaking on The View: Behind the Table podcast, she addressed misunderstandings arising from her recent Marie Claire interview.
During the podcast, Longoria enlisted the help of her friend Ana Navarro to set the record straight.
“Would you please let them know that I didn’t move out of the United States because of Trump?” Longoria said, expressing frustration over how some media outlets had twisted her comments into “clickbait” headlines.
“I’ve been in Europe working for almost three years,” she explained, adding, “People just grabbed some clickbait stuff to be divisive, which makes me so sad. Everything you say is just meant to be divisive, and we can’t be that way right now.”
Longoria currently resides abroad with her husband, José Bastón, and their six-year-old son, Santiago.
During the podcast, Ana Navarro reminded her of a previous comment about how living in Europe felt like “shutting off the noise.”
Longoria agreed, saying, “Yeah, I mean, being away from the constant 24-hour news cycle puts you in a bit of a bubble, for sure. That’s why I’m in Europe. I didn’t leave because of the political environment. I left because my work took me there.”
Ana Navarro’s friend Eva Longoria made an unexpected call during the taping of our Behind The Table podcast to address headlines claiming she left the United States due to President-elect Trump’s victory. Listen to the full conversation on Behind The Table here:
