A man has tragically passed away after suffering fatal injuries caused by his pet cat.
Dmitry Ukhin, 55, was reportedly looking for his missing cat, which had been gone for two days, when an unfortunate incident unfolded in the Kirishi district of Russia’s Leningrad region.
After successfully locating and bringing his pet home, the cat allegedly scratched him on the leg.
Dmitry’s wife, Natalya, was reportedly away from home when the incident occurred.
Realizing the severity of his condition, Dmitry reached out to a neighbor, alerting them that his life was in danger.
According to a police source, Dmitry also contacted emergency services at approximately 11 p.m., as reported by local media.
By the time medical responders arrived at the scene, the 55-year-old was reportedly already deceased.
The police spokesperson stated: “At approximately 11 p.m., a man dialed 112 to report that his friend was bleeding from a leg injury caused by a torn vein.”
“The medical team that arrived only confirmed the man’s death, and the police were later notified via phone.”
A neighbor, who wished to remain unnamed, administered first aid to Dmitry and claimed that the medical team took an extended time to arrive. Natalya corroborated this account in a statement to local media, according to the Mirror.
She also described the cat, Styopka, as a generally gentle and friendly animal, one that often enjoyed roaming outdoors.
Dmitry was reportedly living with diabetes and a blood clotting disorder, conditions that made him especially susceptible to excessive bleeding.
According to Blood.co.uk: “Blood clotting, or coagulation, is a vital process that helps reduce bleeding when we are injured. It occurs whenever a blood vessel is damaged, whether from a minor scratch or a more severe injury.
“In response to the injury, a reaction is triggered in the blood vessel, activating platelets (specialized blood cell fragments) and clotting factors (specific proteins) in the blood. These elements work together to slow and stop the bleeding, forming a clot over the damaged area, which the body will naturally dissolve once the injury has healed.”
The fate of Styopka remains uncertain as local authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
Dmitry’s exact cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
