The original Prison Break series ran from 2005 to 2017.
The Prison Break reboot has reportedly been confirmed, with a decision said to have been made regarding the cast.
The Golden Globe-nominated series originally aired from 2005 to 2017, spanning five seasons and an impressive 90 episodes.
Created by Paul Scheuring, the show follows structural engineer Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) as he devises an intricate plan to break his brother, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), out of death row after being falsely accused.
Sarah Wayne Callies stars as Dr. Sara Tancredi, Michaelโs love interest, while Robert Knepper takes on the role of the complex inmate, Theodore ‘T-Bag’ Bagwell.
After four successful seasons, Prison Break returned in 2017 for a short revival. However, there had been little news about the series until recently.
In 2020, lead actor Wentworth Miller made it clear he would not be returning to the show.
“I’m not concerned for myself. I can’t be ‘bullied’ in this space. I have too much power. ‘Delete. Block. Deactivate.’ Etc,” he shared on Instagram.
“But I take seriously the possibility of queer kids visiting here, recently out of the closet or exploring the idea… I don’t want them exposed to bulls**t,” Miller shared.
“On a related note… I’m out. Of PB. Officially.”
Despite his departure, Entertainment Weekly reported last year that a reboot was officially in the works at Hulu. Now, Variety has provided an update, confirming changes to the cast.
According to the outlet, the new storyline will “exist in the same universe as the original Prison Break but focus on a new crew of inmates.”
Elgin James is set to direct the new series, with producers Dawn Olmstead, original creator Paul Scheuring, Marty Adelstein, and Neal Moritz on board.
The news of a Prison Break reboot has sparked mixed reactions from fans online.
One person tweeted: “Whyyyy do we need to reboot everything? I stg reboots are always 100x more s**t.”
Another pointed out: “How about an original thought for a new show lmao? Let this show be remembered as one of the greatest ever.”
Meanwhile, a third added: “I couldn’t bring myself to watch the last season.”
Another fan suggested: “They should just make a new show. Prison Break was great, so probably not a good idea to invite the comparison at this point.”
Meanwhile, someone else added: “Season 1 was good, the rest was a waste of time and money. Hopefully, a reboot will do better.”
I guess weโll just have to wait and see what happens next.
