Not long after the release of Squid Game season two, it seems a potential release date for the third and final season has surfaced.
Netflix Korea reportedly revealed the release date for the final season of Squid Game in a video, which has since been removed from social media.
The first season of the popular South Korean survival series took Netflix by storm upon its debut in 2021.
Season two of Squid Game was released on December 26, 2024, and has sparked mixed reactions from audiences, many of whom are now eagerly anticipating the third and final season to see how the story unfolds.
What we know so far about Squid Game season three
Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk previously shared with Variety that when he first envisioned the final two seasons of the series, he wrote them as part of a single, long story arc.
He explained: “I originally planned to tell the story over eight to nine episodes, but once I completed it, the narrative expanded beyond 10 episodes, which felt too long for one season.”
Hwang added, “I wanted to find a natural break for the second season to offer closure, and then move into the third. If you look at Gi-hun’s journey, all of his attempts to stop the game fail: the first attempt involving mercenaries and a tracking device fails; the second, trying to convince others to vote and leave, fails as well; and the third, when he leads a rebellion, ultimately fails too.”
As for when Squid Game will reach its conclusion, fans are eagerly awaiting news about the release of the final season.
Possible Squid Game season three release date
Dong-hyuk has been careful not to share spoilers or a specific release date for Squid Game Season 3.
“But what I can say is, once Season 2 launches, weโll likely announce the release date for Season 3 soon,” he mentioned. “Iโm expecting it to come out around next summer or fall.”
However, Netflix Korea may have let the cat out of the bag, inadvertently revealing the highly anticipated release date for the third season.
According to Comic Basics, Netflix Korea accidentally posted a video on YouTube that included the dateโJune 27. The post was quickly deleted, but not before Comic Basics and The Hollywood Handle managed to capture screenshots.
