Captivating fans, the movie “Society of Snow” offers a chilling glimpse into the 1972 Uruguayan rugby team plane crash. Stranded on the Andes mountains, the survivors were compelled to resort to cannibalism in order to endure the harrowing circumstances.

The Netflix summary of the film barely alludes to the horrendous conditions the characters had to endure in their struggle for survival.

The summary reads, “Following a plane crash in the remote heart of the Andes, survivors join forces and become each other’s best hope as they navigate their way back home.”

After accumulating 90 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, the film proudly holds an impressive 90 percent on the site’s Tomatometer. Similarly, on IMDb, the movie secured a commendable score of 7.9.

Directed by J.A. Bayona, the Spanish film made its debut on Netflix on January 4, with social media users emphatically declaring it as one of the best films they’ve ever seen.

One user on X commented, “Being Spain’s International Selection for the 2024 Oscars and receiving nominations for Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards definitely speaks to its quality and impact.”

“SOCIETY OF THE SNOW is now on Netflix! It’s incredible, featuring phenomenal sound design and a beautiful score.”

Another user added, “As much as I loved Alive when I was young, this is a much better retelling of the same story. The plane crash and avalanche are both crushingly terrifying.”

Juan Antonio Bayona reaffirms his position as one of today’s premier directors, delivering not just a film but one of the most unforgettable survival stories in recent memory. He skillfully brings to life an incredible true story, seamlessly intertwining the human condition and emotion to profoundly impact and resonate with audiences. Truly outstanding.”
