“He bestowed the world with a diverse range of exceptional abilities, fulfilling roles as an actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist, and cherished companion to numerous individuals. His captivating smile, infectious laughter, and enduring enthusiasm for life will eternally resonate in the hearts of those privileged to have shared moments with him.”

David Richard Solberg, known by his stage name Soul, was born on August 28, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois. He gained widespread recognition as a household name through his role in the renowned 1970s television series, Starsky & Hutch. Soul’s depiction of Hutch, alongside Paul Michael Glaser’s portrayal of Starsky, played a pivotal role in turning the show into an international sensation.

Prior to achieving television stardom, Soul enjoyed a multifaceted career. Initially venturing into music, he rose to prominence as a folk singer during the 1960s. His single ‘Don’t Give Up on Us’ soared to the top of charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom in 1977. Soul’s musical journey encompassed successful albums such as “David Soul” and “Playing to an Audience of One.”

Yet, it was his portrayal in Starsky & Hutch that undeniably propelled him to stardom. The series, acclaimed for its high-energy action, unforgettable car chases, and the dynamic chemistry between Soul and Glaser, not only became a pop culture sensation but continues to be cherished by audiences to this day.

Soul’s depiction of Hutch, embodying a composed and intellectual counterpart to Starsky’s street-smart character, struck a chord with audiences and significantly contributed to the success of the show throughout its four-year run from 1975 to 1979.

After the conclusion of the show, Soul maintained a versatile career in television, film, and theater. His presence graced various TV shows and movies, including notable works like Magnum Force and Salem’s Lot. Additionally, he found success in the realm of stage performances, participating in theater productions such as Deathtrap and Jerry Springer: The Opera.

Across his career, Soul’s accomplishments extended across both the entertainment industry and the realm of music, solidifying his status as a versatile and enduring talent in Hollywood.
