Cameron Diaz wants to normalize married couples having separate bedrooms: ‘I have my house, you have yours’

Cameron Diaz has shared her wish to “normalize” the idea of married couples not sharing the same bed.

Traditionally, sleeping separately has been viewed as somewhat taboo within a marriage, often suggesting potential issues in the relationship.

Yet, numerous reasons exist for individuals opting to sleep in separate rooms from their partners, ranging from conflicting schedules to the challenge of obtaining adequate rest when a partner snores.

Choosing to sleep separately can bring certain benefits to a relationship, particularly when it ensures both partners get sufficient rest and avoid irritability from being kept awake. Cameron, aged 51, fully supports this concept.

The actress, married to Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden since 2015, confessed that she would be open to the idea of having separate houses from a spouse.

During a conversation on healthy lifestyles on the Lipstick on the Rim podcast, she expressed her view, stating, “We should encourage the normalization of separate bedrooms.”

“For me, it’s like, I would literally have my house, you have yours. We maintain a family house in the middle. I’ll sleep in my room, and you can sleep in yours. I’m perfectly fine with that.”

“We can gather in the centrally located bedroom for our intimate moments.”

Molly Sims, the host, acknowledged that some might perceive the position as “controversial,” yet Cameron stood firm, emphasizing that she had already expressed it and couldn’t retract her statement.

Although she is fully supportive of taking extra measures for a good night’s sleep, Cameron clarified that she and Benji, aged 44, do not actually sleep in separate rooms.

She elaborated, stating, “I want to clarify that my perspective has changed now because my husband is so wonderful. I made that statement before we got married.”

Introduced by Nicole Richie, who is married to his twin brother and bandmate, Joel Madden, the mother of one tied the knot with Benji just 10 months after their initial meeting.

Acknowledging that she initially found him “so hot,” she confessed that her feelings deepened as she got to know him as a person.

Speaking on Anna Faris’ Unqualified podcast in 2021, Cameron expressed, “When I saw who he was, that’s what made me really think, ‘Oh, you, you’re special, you’re the guy, you’re the hidden gem in my life.'”

The couple has since welcomed their daughter, Raddix, who is three years old. Cameron has previously described motherhood as the “best, best, best part” of her life.

In a conversation with Gucci Westman in 2020, she exclaimed, “I’m so grateful and so happy. It’s the best thing ever, and I’m so lucky to do it with Benj. We’re having the best time. I’m thrilled. I can’t believe it.”

Celebrating their eighth anniversary in January, Benji shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, writing, “Eight years married, side by side, and now a little one for us to guide. Let’s do 80 more and then forever. Happy anniversary.”
