New ‘hangover cure’ drink claims to reverse effects in 30 minutes

You might have an unforgettable night out with your friends, downing pints and belting out your favorite songs, but you can almost guarantee you’ll feel like a wreck the next morning.

Sure, you might brag about never getting hangovers, but most of us who drink have definitely woken up at least once wishing we could just crawl into a hole and disappear.

The pounding headache, the nausea, the hangxietyโ€”everything leaving you questioning if it was even worth it in the first place.

But, in what sounds like something out of a sci-fi film, a new โ€˜hangover cureโ€™ drink is claiming to reverse the effects in just 30 minutes.

And no, itโ€™s not the hair of the dog or a bottle of orange Lucozade.

It’s basically magic, supposedly. (@drinksafetyshot/Instagram)

Safety Shot is the latest product in the lineup of hangover remedies, designed to break down alcohol and replenish the nutrients needed for recovery.

The Centre for Applied Health Sciences in the US found that the drink can take action in just 30 minutes. However, some experts remain skeptical about its effectiveness and speed.

Hoping to help drinkers โ€˜never lose a day,โ€™ Safety Shot launched in the US before Christmas and quickly sold out.

It’s not available in the UK just yet, but it’s expected to launch before the end of the year.

The drink claims to reduce residual alcohol absorption in the gut by creating a shield around the gut wall. It also purports to lower blood alcohol content through various mechanisms that help process alcohol more efficiently.

Additionally, the combination of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids is designed to help your body maintain hydration.

Safety Shotโ€™s final โ€˜stepโ€™ in purportedly curing a hangover is to improve overall well-being through a blend of nootropics and vitamins.

While some people claim it works, a journalist who tested it for The Guardian found that it didnโ€™t quickly decrease her blood alcohol level but did affect her alertness.

Experts are divided on it as well. Sam Royle, a researcher at the University of Salford, told The Sun: โ€œThe mechanisms underlying hangovers are not fully understood, and while the product includes some ingredients that may reduce inflammation or oxidative stressโ€”factors thought to contribute to hangover symptomsโ€”there are no actual, validated hangover cures.โ€

Registered nutritional therapist Lauren Johnson Reynolds suggested it might โ€˜help you feel better,โ€™ but sheโ€™s not convinced it can eliminate alcohol from your system that quickly.

โ€œI would be skeptical about the blood alcohol content being reduced that quickly, but I can see how it might make a person feel better,โ€ she said.
