Liam Payne’s father has honored his late son at the Buenos Aires hotel where he tragically fell to his death.
The 31-year-old singer fell from the third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday, October 16.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Payne died from multiple traumas and “internal and external hemorrhage” resulting from the fall, with his body discovered in the hotel’s internal courtyard.
A transcript released by the Buenos Aires police department reveals that hotel staff made two calls for assistance regarding a guest who was “intoxicated by drugs and alcohol.”
According to police, Payne’s hotel room was found in “complete disarray,” with “various items broken,” as the investigation into the “inconclusive death” continues.
The singer’s father, Geoff Payne, has traveled to Argentina to arrange for the repatriation of his son, as reported by the Associated Press.
He was seen coming in and out of the Casa Sur Hotel, standing close to the flower tributes laid by fans outside.
As a grieving crowd watched, Sky correspondent Martha Kelner reported: “Geoff paused occasionally to put on his glasses to read the notes written in English and picked up the pictures to kiss them. He also thanked fans for their support.”
She added, “He was not allowed into the specific room, which remains an active investigation scene, but he was shown a room with a similar layout.
Earlier, he visited the morgue to confirm his son’s identity and went to the prosecutor’s office to make arrangements for his repatriation to the UK.”
In a joint statement released on Thursday, October 17, Liam Payne’s family expressed their heartbreak, stating, “Liam will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we will cherish his kind, humorous, and courageous spirit.
“We are leaning on one another as a family during this difficult time and kindly ask for privacy and space.”
Cheryl Cole, Payne’s former partner and mother of their seven-year-old son, shared her commitment to protecting their child following the loss of his father.
โIn the midst of trying to cope with this life-altering tragedy and process my own grief during this unimaginably painful time, I want to gently remind everyone that weโve lost a human being,โ she wrote in an Instagram post.
The singer continued, โLiam was more than just a pop star and celebrity; he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a cherished friend, and a father to our seven-year-old son.
โA son who now has to confront the heartbreaking reality of never seeing his father again.โ
