Drew Barrymore has received praise for appearing on TV without makeup and hair extensions.
Barrymore hosts her own talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show, where she frequently welcomes celebrity guests to discuss a wide range of topics.
This week, she had the legendary Pamela Anderson as a guest.
Recently, the Baywatch star has emerged as a beauty icon after embracing a more natural look, stepping away from her signature glam.
She first showcased her makeup-free appearance at the 2023 Paris Fashion Week, garnering global attention.
Anderson has explained her choice to embrace a more natural look instead of using cosmetics such as foundation and mascara.
“That marked the start of me releasing the image I had always held of myself,” Anderson shared with Better Homes & Gardens magazine earlier this year.
“What is this cartoon character I created? That was fun, but I’m not that person anymore.”
Now, Barrymore has followed Anderson’s lead by going makeup-free in today’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show (October 22).
Her guests—Gillian Anderson, Gayle King, and Valerie Bertinelli—also chose to forgo makeup.
In addition to forgoing makeup, Barrymore also took out her hair extensions as she discussed her experiences with perimenopause and hair loss.
Later, the Scream star confessed to feeling somewhat self-conscious when she caught a glimpse of herself in the monitor. She realized she was adjusting her appearance more than usual while asking Gillian Anderson how she felt about going bare-faced.
“I am hiding behind my glasses a little bit,” the The Fall actress responded. “I often skip makeup for my TikTok posts, but I’m very conscious of the lighting in the studio.”
Echoing her sentiments, King said, “I don’t have any issues taking pictures of myself without makeup, but it feels different when you’re on national TV.”
All the women have received praise for choosing to go makeup-free for the show.
“I think it’s great that they’re beginning to normalize women’s natural beauty,” one person commented on Instagram.
