Payne gained fame following his time on The X Factor and as a member of the renowned boy band One Direction, alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan.
This week brought the heartbreaking news of the singer’s passing, and since then, further tragic details have emerged.
Now, Payne’s father has been dealt with even more devastating news.
The circumstances surrounding Liam Payne’s death are still being investigated.
A post-mortem examination revealed that he died from multiple injuries consistent with a fall from a height of 45 feet.
The tragedy took place at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in the Palermo district, where Payne was staying.
While the autopsy confirmed the cause of death, authorities have classified the case as ‘inconclusive’ until further toxicological results are received, according to MailOnline.
Prosecutors are looking into the possibility of drug involvement, and forensic examinations of mobile phones, computers, photographs, and hotel security footage are currently being conducted.
A hotel manager placed an emergency call to local authorities shortly before the incident, reporting that a guest was “off his head on drugs and destroying everything in his room.”
In a follow-up call, the manager voiced concern that the guest might be in a life-threatening situation, especially since his room had a balcony.
Argentine authorities are still collecting witness statements from hotel staff, acquaintances, and medical professionals associated with Liam in the hours before his death.
Investigators are also examining items found at the scene, including white powder discovered on a desk in Liam’s hotel room, which is currently undergoing testing.
Despite these ongoing efforts, there is currently no evidence suggesting third-party involvement.
Prosecutors have indicated that Payne may have fallen from the balcony while in a ‘semi or total unconscious’ state, possibly as a result of a psychotic episode triggered by substances.
Liam’s father, Geoff Payne, 66, expressed his desire for transparency in the investigation during a meeting with Prosecutor Madrea. He even offered to testify about any details of his son’s life that could assist the case.
Given the high-profile nature of Liam’s death, Madrea provided Geoff with an offer of police protection while he is in Argentina.
Geoff has also visited the hotel where Liam’s tragic fall took place.
In the meantime, fans of the singer have been honoring his memory with heartfelt tributes.
A vigil took place outside the hotel, and in Manchester, flowers and photos of Payne with his One Direction bandmates were laid at a memorial.
One heartfelt tribute read, “Payno forever 31,” while others arranged heart-shaped candles to honor the star’s memory.
However, Geoff Payne has received more heartbreaking news: he faces a 10-day wait before his son’s body can be transported back home from Argentina.
Liam’s father traveled to the city to formally identify his son and is now grappling with the difficult task of bringing him home, while local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
Payne visited the morgue where his son’s body is being held and met with officials from Argentina’s Ministry of Justice.
Prosecutor Andrés Esteban Madrea, who is overseeing the investigation, informed Geoff that it could take up to 10 days for toxicology and histopathology tests to be completed before Liam’s body can be released.
Despite the painful uncertainty, Geoff has pledged not to return to the UK without his son’s remains.
A family friend shared (via MailOnline): “Geoff has been informed that it might take ten days for the tests to be completed before he can bring Liam home. He is finding the entire situation incredibly difficult. Geoff is completely heartbroken over the loss of his son.”
