Fans were unsettled after viewing Billie Eilish and her new boyfriend’s Halloween costumes.
Some have even gone so far as to label them as “sick and twisted.”
Billie Eilish has made a significant impact on the music industry.
She began writing and producing her own music at a very young age and gained widespread recognition with her breakout album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, which was released in March 2019.
She is recognized for her unique and quirky personality…
Billie was homeschooled, which limited her interactions with peers her own age to just her siblings until she began making a name for herself in the music industry. This experience has provided her with a distinct perspective on the world.
Her debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, debuted at the top of the charts.
Most artists must release several albums and commit their lives to promoting their work before gaining recognition, but a fortunate few, like Billie, achieve superstardom right from their first release.
Upon the album’s release, she expressed, “This album [means] the world to me, please take care of it.”
However, it’s fair to say that Billie is just as well-known for her image as she is for her music…
She definitely doesn’t dress like your average teenage girl.
Billie is famous for sporting some truly bold and unique styles…
It all started with her striking silver hair.
If anything, this look became her signature style around 2017.
And who could ever forget this iconic color combination?
Billie made a splash with her neon green roots, a look that certainly caught everyone’s attention.
In an interview a few years back, Billie elaborated on her choices…
“That’s why I choose to wear baggy clothes,” she stated.
“Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath. No one can say, ‘she’s slim-thick,’ ‘she’s not slim-thick,’ ‘she’s got a flat a**,’ or ‘she’s got a fat a**.’ No one can comment on any of that because they don’t know.”
Unfortunately, people have attempted to exploit and body-shame her from a young age. Even when she was just fifteen, online trolls were trying to sexualize her for no reason at all.
It’s a harsh reality that young women in the public eye are often targeted by older individuals.
Let me clarify: just because there’s a line in her song “bad guy” that says, “bruises on both my knees for you,” does that mean it’s acceptable to start sexualizing her? I fail to see the connection.
Well, in December 2019, the pop sensation celebrated her eighteenth birthday.
And we have yet to see any significant changes in her fashion sense or clothing choices.
Who would have thought this would cause the internet to explode?
So many despicable individuals revealed their true colors over one simple and innocent photo of a girl and her friends on vacation. From body-shaming to sexualization, people couldn’t restrain themselves from reacting to the image.
Within hours, “Billie Eilish body” began trending on Twitter, and a flood of horrendous comments about her body followed.
Many of these comments have since been deleted following the backlash they received.
Billie recently spoke out about the unwarranted media attention surrounding her body.
In Miami, before performing “All the Good Girls Go to Hell,” a video interlude played, and what Billie had to say earned her a lot of praise from fans.
“She wears layers, and people have issues; she wears less, and people still have issues. People are never satisfied. Just ignore them. There’s always someone who has a problem,” one person commented.
“This is such a beautiful and powerful message presented in a stunning artistic way. It truly grabs your attention and resonates deeply, and it’s incredible to have someone like Billie—who many young people look up to and idolize—deliver such a strong message in just a 3 minute and 40-second video to over 35 million viewers,” another person shared.
She ended the short film: “Or is your opinion of me, not my responsibility?
In October 2020, Billie candidly addressed body shamers and discussed how young girls should dress to avoid being sexualized.
She explained to Elle magazine that her choice to wear baggy clothes stemmed from society’s tendency to sexualize young women, not from any insecurity on her part.
The singer also recounted an incident in Nashville when she wore a tank top, and someone took a photo of her that quickly went viral on social media.
“Billie Eilish and Jessie Rutherford’s matching Halloween costumes are incredibly sick and twisted—especially considering their age difference and power imbalance. It’s not funny or stylish; it’s not playful, it’s disturbing, and once again, the adults in her life are failing her,” another person wrote.
However, many others loved the costume idea and came to the singer’s defense.
“I have ALWAYS ‘LOVED’ @billieeilish’s sense of humor. This shows her true self—HILARIOUS! All you silly people need to lighten up. Love it, Billie,” one fan commented.
