Slaton gained recognition as a star of the hit TLC reality series 1000-Lb Sisters, where she appeared alongside her sister, Amy Slaton.
The show, which premiered in 2020, chronicles their daily lives as they work toward their weight loss goals.
At the start of the series, Tammy was estimated to weigh around 600 pounds, although her weight fluctuated over time. Now, after shedding hundreds of pounds, she looks like a completely different person!
Before Tammy’s health journey really began, she left fans deeply worried when she underwent surgery after a near-death experience in 2022. The reality TV star shared with People magazine that she had bariatric surgery after she stopped breathing and was placed in a medically induced coma.
“I made the smart choice and had my surgery,” Tammy shared. “I worked hard to strengthen my lungs enough to have my trach [tracheostomy tube] removed, and just recently, my doctor gave me the green light to go without my oxygen machine during the day.”
She continued, “I’m feeling fantastic! I’m grateful to be alive, and it’s exciting to see how much I’ve progressed.”
At the start of her journey, Tammy struggled with mobility and relied on a walker or wheelchair.
Now, she’s able to move independently and no longer needs an oxygen tube.
Tammy has shared on TikTok how her life has transformed, expressing to her fans that she felt “bitter, unhappy, extremely suicidal, depressed, and just mean” before her weight loss journey.
“I’ve noticed significant growth in how I treat others and my family,” she said. “My overall attitude has improved, and I seem much happier. I find myself smiling a lot more.”
Recently, Tammy had an appointment with her doctor, Dr. Eric Smith, where she discovered just how far she had come in her weight loss journey.
The TV star was stunned to learn that she had achieved the goal weight set by Dr. Smith.
Fans have taken to social media to congratulate Tammy after hearing the exciting news about her journey.
One fan commented, “So proud of her!”
“She looks absolutely healthy and beautiful,” another fan remarked. “Such an inspiration.”
A third person chimed in, saying, “Looking good, Tammy!”
“I can’t imagine the dedication and discipline it took to get there. Amazing job!” another admirer enthusiastically commented.
In an episode of 1000-Lb Sisters, Tammy stepped on the scale and discovered she now weighs 303.8 lbs, a result that Dr. Smith called “unbelievable.”
Tammy was equally surprised, exclaiming, “I surpassed Dr. Smith’s goal, my goal, all the goals!”
In an interview with People, Dr. Smith remarked, “Tammy has consistently shown her commitment to making sustainable lifestyle changes to maximize the benefits of her surgery.”
“I’ve stressed the importance of making small, daily adjustments to guarantee not only her continued progress but also her long-term success. She’s truly dedicated to her health journey,” Dr. Smith added.
The next step in Tammy’s weight loss journey is skin removal surgery, which typically occurs after a person has maintained their weight for three to six months.
