Elliot Page recently posted an inspiring message on Instagram.
And it’s stirring up emotional reactions across the internet!
Actor Elliot Page has long been a significant figure within the LGBTQ+ community…
And he has been a steadfast advocate for the community.
However, on December 1, 2020, he took another pivotal step in enhancing his legacy.
Elliot publicly came out as transgender in a heartfelt statement shared online.
In a deeply personal essay, he began: “Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they, and my name is Elliot. I feel fortunate to be writing this. To be here.”
“I am filled with overwhelming gratitude for the amazing people who have supported me throughout this journey.”
“I can’t fully express how incredible it feels to finally embrace who I am and pursue my true self.”
“I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community. Thank you for your courage, your generosity, and your tireless efforts to create a more inclusive and compassionate world. I will offer any support I can and will keep striving for a more loving and equitable society,” he wrote.
“I love being trans, and I love being queer. The more I cherish myself and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, my heart expands, and I flourish. To all the trans individuals facing harassment, self-hatred, abuse, and the constant threat of violence: I see you, I love you, and I will do everything in my power to make this world a better place.”
He then requested “patience” as he navigates his journey with his new identity.
“My joy is genuine, but it is also fragile,” he wrote. “The truth is, even though I feel deeply happy at this moment and recognize the privilege I hold, I am also scared.”
“I fear the invasiveness, the hate, the ‘jokes,’ and the violence. To be clear, I’m not trying to undermine this joyful moment that I celebrate, but I want to acknowledge the complete reality.”
Naturally, fans quickly started praising Page and extending their support…
It’s evident that Page’s decision to come out as trans struck a chord with many people.
The actor then chose to keep a low profile for several months…
However, news of his divorce filing from his wife, Emma Portner, made global headlines.
In March 2021, Page gave his first interview since coming out.
In an interview with Time magazine, Page reflected on his childhood and his journey of coming out as transgender.
“What I anticipated was a lot of support and love, along with a significant amount of hatred and transphobia. That’s essentially what unfolded. I felt like a boy. I wanted to be a boy. I would ask my mom if I could be one someday.”
The actor then discussed his significant decision to undergo top surgery.
He emphasized that being trans isn’t solely about surgery, but explained that having the procedure “has completely transformed my life.”
“We know who we are. People hold onto rigid ideas about gender because it provides a sense of safety. But if we could celebrate the wonderful complexities of individuals, the world would be a much better place,” Page stated. “It’s a complicated journey and an ongoing process.”
Page also had a candid interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired on Apple TV.
Page spoke about the forthcoming interview and the challenges he has encountered since coming out as trans in a conversation with Vanity Fair.
Page first noted the changes he experienced after publicly sharing that he was trans.
The actor remarked that they feel more comfortable in their own skin, stating, “the most significant difference is that I’m really able to just exist.”
They also shared that they now feel “present.”
During the interview, Page talked about his career and the transformations he has witnessed.
They acknowledged that their increased comfort level might influence their acting performances, though he expressed uncertainty about the specific changes their work might undergo in the future.
Building on the conversation about creativity, Page remarked that transphobia stifles creative expression for individuals.
“Transphobia in our society excludes countless individuals. Consider all those who are denied the opportunity to flourish, to envision a future, and to share their unique talents with the world.”
The actor acknowledged that his experience is distinct while also reflecting on how he felt about his identity in the past.
“When I was a child, without a doubt, I identified as a boy. I recognized that I was a boy even as a toddler. I would write pretend love letters and sign them ‘Jason.’ Every detail of my life reflected who I was, who I am, and who I always knew myself to be,” he shared.
“I just couldn’t comprehend being told, ‘No, you’re not. No, you can’t be that when you grow up.’ You feel it deeply. Now, I’m finally reclaiming my true self, and it feels incredibly beautiful and extraordinary, though there’s also a sense of grief attached to it.”
While Page’s journey has been lengthy and challenging…
It appears the actor has finally reached the place he’s always longed for.
Recently, Page shared that he feels better than ever at this stage in his life, describing the experience of wearing a suit to the Oscars as a truly “joyful moment.”
“I have no doubt that the immense privilege and resources I’ve had access to—from therapy to surgery, and everything in between—truly saved my life.”
“Now, I can genuinely feel present in a space—free from that constant, underlying anxiety or the urge to escape.”
In his conversation with Meyers, the actor shared that, despite the negativity he’s faced, he chooses to focus on how his life has improved.
“It’s just so unfortunate because, really, we’re all on the same team here, whether you’re trans, gender-nonconforming, or cis,” he said.
“We all face expectations and limitations because of society’s obsession with the binary and these rigid ideas of how we’re supposed to live,” he added.
He shared that he’s ready to get back into the dating scene…
This time, he’s giving online dating apps a try.
He announced the exciting news in an Instagram story.
It appears he got some support from his Umbrella Academy co-star Ritu Arya, who portrays Lila Pitts in the series.
In the adorable picture, they were lying next to each other, with Arya guiding him through the process.
Page captioned the photo: “Ritu Arya showing me the ropes for my very first dating app.”
