Two college students are facing significant backlash after using recent allegations against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs as inspiration for their Halloween costumes, with images of their outfits going viral.
Combs is currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, facing charges related to sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution.
In addition to these charges, Combs is dealing with a wave of allegations presented in several lawsuits, the latest of which was filed just nine days ago, on October 20.
The rapper is currently awaiting trial after being denied bail.
While Combs remains incarcerated, some members of the public have been making light of the situation.
In a now-deleted TikTok video, a duo of students showcased their costumes, portraying Combs and “Baby Oil.”
The costumes reference the discovery of around 1,000 bottles of baby oil in Combs’ residences in Miami and Los Angeles, as detailed in a 14-page legal indictment from the Southern District of New York (SDNY).
According to the New York Post, the original video was captioned: “How the group chat dressed for Halloween.”
The individual portraying Combs was white and used a product to cover his face, resulting in blackface.
In addition to the makeup, the man wore a dark blazer, a red bowtie, and white sneakers.
Meanwhile, the woman donned a pink hat and shirt, with a sign attached to her outfit that read “Johnson’s Baby,” referencing the baby oil brand.
Both the original video and the social media accounts of the person who posted it have been deleted. However, the video has gained significant attention worldwide after being shared by other users.
The two students have faced widespread criticism for employing blackface in their costume and for trivializing the serious allegations against Combs.
On Twitter, one user commented, “The blackface is disgusting. And treating Diddy’s accusations like some big joke is [grimace emoji].”
Another user stated, “I just started learning about the Diddy case, and for them to even think of this makes me question their morals.”
The two students featured in the images have not been identified, but the individual who posted the photos is believed to be a student at San Diego State University (SDSU) in California.
