A couple who spent four months living at sea made a shocking discovery when they docked at a remote tropical island.
Strick and Fran run the B2B Castaways YouTube channel, where they document their travel adventures, including living aboard their boat, exploring tropical islands, and much more.
However, in this video, published in December 2023, the adventurous couple stumbled upon something eerie that left them both stunned.
The Australian couple were midway through their four-month journey, living between land and sea in late 2023, when they docked on an island where they had planned to camp the previous night.
At the start of the video, which marked day 44 of their 120-day journey, Strick pointed out that the beach was actually a crocodile slide, where the reptiles slide from land back into the ocean. This revealed they had made the right choice to sleep onboard their boat that night.
As the pair docked their boat and explored the island, they tried their hand at fishing and took time to closely examine the rocks, shells, and various items washed up on the shore.
The two went their separate ways, and thatโs when Fran stumbled upon an unsettling sight. She slowly panned her camera toward a small cave, revealing something eerie within.
“My heart is racingโyou wouldnโt believe what I just spotted,” she said, her voice trembling with excitement and unease.
Fran added that she had never seen anything like it before, describing the experience as “crazy.”
As she moved closer, the camera revealed a human skull along with several bones lined up beside it. Fran reiterated that she “wasn’t expecting” to encounter something like that today.
As she sprinted back across the beach to her partner, she shared her findings with him. Strick mentioned that he felt “goosebumps” upon hearing about the discovery.
He later elaborated that it might have been an Aboriginal burial practice. When a significant member of the tribe passed away, they would carry the body for a time before completely removing the flesh, as they believed the spirit remained alive. The skeleton would then be placed in a ‘safe place.’
Commenters on the social media platform expressed their shock as well, praising the couple for how they managed the situation.
One user remarked, “Strick’s knowledge and respect for Aboriginal culture is just one of the many aspects that sets this channel apart. Keep up the great work, mate!”
Another commenter added, “Anthropology in any culture is absolutely fascinating! The respect youโve shown for the deceased is essential. You both are amazingโstay safe!”
A third commenter shared, “When you first spotted the skull, my immediate thought was that it might belong to someone who went missing due to a wreck or a crocodile attack. I never considered it could be a sacred site. It’s heartening to see such respect for culture.”
