At the recent Emmy Awards, Danny DeVito extended a shoutout to his estranged wife and fellow actor, Rhea Perlman.

While on stage with the cast of the 2005 sitcom “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” the 79-year-old DeVito commended Perlman during the recent Emmy Awards.

Playfully referencing the show’s limited Emmy wins, DeVito enthusiastically cheered on his wife’s accomplishments as he presented the award for Outstanding Talk Series.

Having crossed paths in the early seventies, DeVito and Perlman tied the knot in 1982.

In October 2012, the couple publicly declared their decision to separate, but they ultimately reconciled the following year.

Unfortunately, their reconciliation was short-lived, as the couple parted ways for good in 2017.

Despite their separation, the actors continue to show significant support for each other, evident in Perlman’s presence alongside DeVito at the awards show.

The “Matilda” actor affectionately acknowledged his former wife by commending her achievements during her tenure on the show “Cheers.”

Sharing the stage with Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, and Kaitlin Olson, the co-stars highlighted the contrast between DeVito’s show “Taxi,” which garnered 34 Emmy nominations in five years, and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” which, despite being released in 2005, had received zero nominations.

In a shoutout to his wife, DeVito exclaimed, “Rhea won four for Cheers.”

Despite their separation, the couple has maintained close contact and continues to co-parent their three children together – Lucy, Grace, and Jake DeVito.

Perlman, aged 75, has previously discussed their relationship, clarifying that the couple has no intentions of getting a divorce.

In an episode of the podcast “Wiser Than Me” last year, Perlman, in a conversation with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, affirmed, “We are still married.”

Perlman continued, “And we are still very good friends, and we see each other a lot. Our family is still the most important thing to both of us.”

During an installment of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Perlman expressed, “I can’t comprehend why it’s challenging for others, but Danny and I have consistently shared a deep love, and we are proud parents to three incredible children.”

“We’re in substantial agreement on virtually all crucial matters.”

“Being together for four decades is quite a journey. After all that time, it might be time to explore new possibilities!”

Perlman described the initial period after the couple’s separation as ‘very challenging.’

“In the beginning, it was very tough. There were various reasons behind our separation, which I won’t delve into. However, over time, we managed to establish a fairly decent understanding and relationship with each other,” she explained.

“I never considered sacrificing my relationship for it, and I didn’t.”
