Even after hearing it, you’ll still find it impossible to pronounce.
Elon Musk’s son has one of the most unconventional names, and even after hearing it from the kid himself, I’m still not sure how to pronounce it.
Celebrity parents often opt for unique names for their children, but Musk’s choice definitely stands out.
While opinions on the world’s richest man may vary, one thing is clear: he’s definitely not afraid to be different.
Back in 2020, when Musk and his then-girlfriend Grimes revealed their baby boy’s name, it left many people scratching their heads.
And honestly, it still does. It’s probably easier just to refer to Musk’s son as one of his 12 kids!
In a rather adorable moment earlier this month, Elon Musk’s son interrupted an interview Musk was having with Tucker Carlson. The little one walked in, casually placed his toy car on the desk, and climbed onto his father’s lap. Carlson, amused, asked what he was doing and what his name was.
Musk, smiling, joked that he had his “mini-me” with him, adding that the boy completes him.
With surprising clarity, Musk’s son then pronounced his name into the microphone—and I guarantee you won’t get it right on the first try!
Musk then affectionately referred to his son by his apparent nickname, X, and jokingly asked if he should help President Trump, to which the little boy enthusiastically responded, “Yes.”
To be fair, the four-year-old did babble some other things that were hard to decipher, so perhaps even he struggled with pronouncing his full name.
As you can imagine, this moment only fueled more curiosity and speculation, with many people questioning the meaning behind the name.
Grimes has previously explained the meaning behind her son’s unique name, saying, “X stands for ‘the unknown variable.’”
As for the rest of the name, ‘Æ’ represents the Elven spelling of AI, which stands for artificial intelligence, but also means ‘love’ in several languages, including Japanese.
She further clarified: “A-12 = precursor to SR-71 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent.”
Interestingly, Grimes and Musk have different takes on how to pronounce their son’s name. While Grimes has her own way of saying it, Musk has a slightly different approach, leading to even more confusion about how exactly to pronounce it!
Grimes has explained the pronunciation of her son’s name, saying, “It’s just X, like the letter X. Then AI. Like how you say the letter A then I.”
However, Musk has a slightly different take. On the Joe Rogan podcast, he clarified, “I mean, it’s just X, the letter X. And then, the Æ is, like, pronounced ‘Ash’… and then, A-12, A-12 is my contribution.”
