Emma Stone admits she would like to be called by her real name

Emma Stone prefers to be addressed by her birth name.

Over the years, the star has appeared in a variety of films, ranging from comedies like “Easy A” and “The House Bunny” to acclaimed performances in Oscar-winning films such as “Poor Things” and “La La Land.”

Essentially, Stone has become synonymous with Hollywood over her career, but now she’s eager to shake things up.

Similar to many celebrities, Stone has a sort of stage name that she’s known by in the industry, although it’s not drastically different from her real name.

Stone’s actual surname is indeed Stone; it’s only her first name that differs.

After decades in the spotlight as an actress, the star of “Zombieland” confessed that it would be “so nice” to be known by her true name.

Stone was recently interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter alongside fellow actor Nathan Fielder, her co-star in the comedy-drama “The Curse.”

Fielder expressed to the magazine, “Before we proceed, I’d like to mention something. Her given name is Emily, but she prefers to be addressed as Emma in her professional endeavors. So, when encountering individuals who aren’t familiar with her, I often refer to her as Emma. However, moving forward, I’ll consistently use Emily.”

When asked if anyone in Hollywood addresses her as Emily, the actor responded, “Once I become acquainted with them, colleagues I work with do so. The reason being, my name was already claimed by another actress within the Screen Actors Guild (SAG).”

“A couple of years ago, I had a bit of a panic moment. Suddenly, I felt like, ‘I can’t keep up with this anymore. Just refer to me as Emily.’ Nathan opts for ‘Em,’ which is simpler.”

When queried about her reaction if a fan on the street addressed her by her birth name, she remarked that it would be “quite lovely” to be called Emily.

“No, that would be wonderful. I’d actually prefer to be called Emily,” Stone affirmed.

Regarding the origin of the name ‘Emma,’ she revealed that she drew inspiration from the 90s pop group, The Spice Girls.

During her appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in 2018, Stone revealed, “In my childhood, I had incredibly blonde hair, and my given name is Emily. However, I insisted on being called Emma, inspired by Baby Spice. And would you believe it? Now that’s who I am.”

Continuing, she mentioned that while her choice of the name wasn’t solely influenced by Bunton, she did confess that she began identifying herself as ‘Emma’ from second grade onwards due to her immense admiration for the Spice Girls.

“It wasnโ€™t solely because of [Bunton], but yes, on the first day of second grade, did I approach the teacher and request to be called Emma? Absolutely,” she remarked.

I’m certain she wasn’t the first young girl to insist on being called the same name as one of The Spice Girls.
