Emma Watson revealed that she had a significant crush on her Harry Potter co-star during the early days of filming.
The 34-year-old actress, known for her role as Hermione, appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show in 2012 to share her two-year-long crush on her co-star.
In the interview, Watson mentioned that she struggled to step into a role different from Hermione once the film series concluded.
Itโs hard to believe that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows โ Part 2 was released back in 2011, marking the last time she portrayed the Hogwarts student.
“I wasnโt sure if I believed in myself as an actress outside of Hermione, a role I felt confident in and played for so long,” she said.
“I wasnโt sure if I had other characters inside me or not.”
“I did have some doubts about myself.”
“I had just spent ten years playing one character who was quite similar to my own personality. I became so comfortable in that role that the thought of stepping out to portray someone else was really daunting.”
While sitting on the couch, the actor reflected on her first experience stepping onto a Harry Potter set.
Watson confessed that she had a crush on Tom Felton, the actor who played Draco Malfoy.
“From the ages of ten to twelve, I had a major crush on Tom Felton,” Watson said.
“I would go into work in the morning and check the call sheet to see if he was on it.”
“We love a bad boy; he was a few years older and had a skateboard, and that really sealed the deal.”
“He definitely knew I had a crush on him, and he would tell everyone, โI see her in a younger, sisterly way,โ which broke my heart. It still does.”
After the release of his memoir, Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard, in 2022, Felton shared that he still has a wonderful relationship with Watson.
“I was encouraged by a few people, especially Emma Watson, to share the whole story and not just focus on the lighter parts,” he admitted.
“Not only because it was therapeutic for me.”
“But also in the hope that by sharing these aspects of my story, I can support others who might be facing difficult times.”
Everything turned out for the best.
