Harry Styles’ mother has honored the late Liam Payne, a member of One Direction alongside her son in the early 2010s.
On Wednesday night (October 16), authorities in Buenos Aires, Argentina, announced that Liam Payne, 31, had tragically passed away after falling from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in the capital city.
In the hours following the news, fans gathered outside the hotel to pay their respects to the former One Direction star, who was reportedly in Buenos Aires to see former bandmate Niall Horan perform just days before.
A statement from local police indicated that they were called to the hotel following reports of an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”
According to PA, Alberto Crescenti, head of the state emergency medical system, mentioned that local channel Todo Noticias TV reported that Payne had fallen into the hotel’s courtyard.
He explained, “The alarm was raised at 5:04 PM local time, reporting a person lying in the internal patio at Casa Sur. An ambulance arrived at 5:11 PM, and the man was pronounced dead.”
Crescenti continued, “Afterward, we learned that he was a famous singer. Unfortunately, the injuries he sustained from the fall were fatal, and there was no possibility of resuscitating him.”
He later added that the singer fell approximately 40 meters and suffered “severe injuries that were incompatible with life.”
Tributes have begun pouring in for the star, including a heartfelt message from Anne Twist, Harry Styles’ mother and former One Direction bandmate.
She took to Instagram to express her grief over Payne’s sudden passing, posting a black screen adorned with a broken heart emoji and captioning it, “Just a boy…” along with another broken heart emoji.
Her 2.5 million followers echoed her sadness, sharing their condolences in the comments.
Payne rose to fame as a member of the British boy band One Direction, alongside Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson.
In the wake of his sudden death, police have launched an investigation, and tributes from celebrities have flooded social media.
Former X Factor duo Jedward expressed their condolences, writing, “RIP Liam Payne. Condolences to friends and family.”
Paris Hilton also shared her sorrow, commenting, “So upsetting to hear the news of @LiamPayne’s passing. Sending love and condolences to his family and loved ones. RIP my friend.”
Charlie Puth, who collaborated with Payne on the song “Bedroom Floor,” took to Instagram to express his shock, writing, “I am in shock right now.
“Liam was always so kind to me. He was one of the first major artists I got to work with. I cannot believe he is gone.”
A statement on the official X account of the Brit Awards expressed their sorrow, saying, “We’re incredibly sad to learn of the tragic passing of Liam Payne.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family during this time.”
