They clarified that in the movie, the primary demonic antagonist is Paimon, and a representation of him in a book had left them ‘puzzled’ for an extended period.
In the film, the characters consult a book to learn about Paimon, depicting him as a figure adorned in black robes, carrying a staff, and mounted on a camel.

However, this portrayal appears inconsistent with other representations of the demon. According to the Redditor, they believe they have the answer to this discrepancy.
They highlighted another illustration in which Paimon is summoned by an individual donning robes and wielding a staff, resembling the way Paimon appears in “Hereditary.”
In essence, there’s a possibility that the director of the movie confused two depictions and derived the demon’s appearance from an illustration of someone summoning it. Believe me, I share the same confusion as you regarding the implications of all this.
