“Everyone was convinced that ending things would be the best choice… everyone around me just wanted to make this ‘problem’ vanish.”
In her upcoming memoir, Jamie Lynn Spears reveals that her parents repeatedly urged her to consider abortion or adoption when she became pregnant at 16.
Jamie Lynn Spears, who has recently faced public criticism for her perceived lack of support for her sister Britney during her conservatorship struggles, is set to release a candid memoir titled Things I Should Have Said early next year.
Both Jamie Lynn’s parents, Jamie and Lynn Spears, have faced intense criticism in recent years for their alleged treatment of Britney, especially after the pop star publicly condemned them during an explosive court hearing in June.
BuzzFeed News has exposed widespread issues of abuse, neglect, and even death within the guardianship industry in their investigative series, Beyond Britney. Check it out here. Britney Spears has publicly accused her entire family, including her sister Jamie Lynn, of failing to support her throughout her conservatorship. Since 2008, her life and finances were legally controlled by her father and appointed lawyers.
During a court hearing, Britney Spears stated, “My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship, along with my management who played a key role in punishing me — ma’am, they should be in jail… This conservatorship has allowed my dad to ruin my life.”
In excerpts from her upcoming memoir obtained by TMZ, Jamie Lynn Spears appears to be speaking out against her parents’ alleged treatment of her as well.

Jamie Lynn Spears, who starred in the teen sitcom Zoey 101 for a few months before discovering she was pregnant in 2007, claimed that her parents argued with her over her decision to keep the baby after they persistently pressured her to have an abortion.
Reflecting on the events that unfolded after she informed her parents and management about her pregnancy, Jamie Lynn wrote, “[They] came to my room trying to convince me that having a baby at this point in my life was a terrible idea… ‘It will kill your career. You are just too young. You don’t know what you’re doing. There are pills you can take. We can help you take care of this problem… I know a doctor.’”
Jamie Lynn also alleged that her phone was taken away in an effort to prevent her from contacting anyone outside of her family and immediate circle.
Now 30 years old and a mother of two children, aged 13 and 3, Jamie Lynn has previously spoken out about the experience of having to “hide away” during her first pregnancy.
In an interview with Nylon last October, she recounted hiding out without a phone in the “middle of nowhere” to evade paparazzi after informing her parents about her pregnancy.
“I am mortified to have to tell my parents and my family this. I do not care what TMZ thinks about it,” she expressed. “All I could think about was: ‘These are the people I love that I have to tell, and also, I’m pregnant. There’s a human being growing inside of me, and I’m so young; I’m almost a baby myself.’”
“But of course, the paparazzi still found me,” she added. “It’s not like I was in LA walking down the middle of the most popular boulevard; I was in the middle of nowhere Mississippi.”
In her official announcement post on Instagram last week, Jamie Lynn revealed that her memoir, which she said has been in the works for a long time, will delve into her mental health and share details about her life and experiences.
She explained that her decision to release a memoir—despite criticism from fans regarding her perceived lack of support for her sister over the years—stemmed from a “strong conviction” to share her story.
Earlier this week, Jamie Lynn faced backlash when a mental health organization publicly rejected a donation she planned to make from the sales of her book.
Jamie Lynn announced the collaboration last Monday, stating, “I’m so happy to announce that a portion of my book proceeds will be going to @thisismybrave because I know how scary it can be to share personal struggles, especially if you don’t feel you have the support or a safe space to do so. They are doing amazing work to support and encourage people as they bravely share their experiences.”
Fans quickly criticized the charity for collaborating with Jamie Lynn, labeling the partnership as “hypocritical” and “tone deaf.”
After a week of intense backlash, This Is My Brave issued a statement on Monday announcing that it would not be accepting her donation.
Their post stated, “We heard you. We’re taking action. We are deeply sorry to anyone we offended. We are declining the donation from Jamie Lynn Spears’ upcoming book.”
The caption continued, “We hear you. This Is My Brave was recently recommended to be a beneficiary organization for the proceeds from Jamie Lynn Spears’ upcoming book. We have made the decision to decline the offer of receiving proceeds from the book sales.”
Although Jamie Lynn has not yet publicly commented on the rejected donation, she was reportedly left feeling “blindsided” by the announcement.
“Jamie Lynn was totally blindsided by them publicly walking away,” a source told People. “The organization was recommended and vetted and knew we were donating, but they’ve been overwhelmed.”
