Liam Payne’s last public remarks about his seven-year-old son have resurfaced online following the tragic news of his untimely passing.
The music industry was heartbroken to learn that Payne, 31, had died after a fatal fall from his third-floor balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Emergency services have since confirmed that the singer died from “severe injuries incompatible with life” sustained in the fall.
As fans and the music industry unite to honor his memory, a heartfelt clip of Payne’s final public remarks about his seven-year-old son has re-emerged online.
Payne welcomed his son, Bear, with then-girlfriend Cheryl Tweedy (formerly Cole) in 2017.
The couple split in 2018, but they continued to co-parent their son, with Payne occasionally sharing updates about him with fans.
The last time Payne spoke publicly about his son was during his 31st birthday in August, where he affectionately referred to the child as his “mini me” while sharing a heartwarming update on his social media platforms.
In the video, the singer shares with his followers that he hadn’t yet received a present from his son but was “really excited” to talk to him later.
“I haven’t gotten any dad socks yet,” he said in the clip. “I’m going to speak to my son in a little bit, which I’m really excited about. Bless him. He’s getting so big now. He’s a big boy, and he looks like a mini me. As if we needed any more of me in the world!”
In the hours following Payne’s death, Alberto Crescenti, head of the state emergency medical system, provided an update on the incident, stating: “The alarm was raised at 5:04 PM local time, reporting a person lying in an internal patio at Casa Sur.
“An ambulance arrived at 5:11 PM, and the man was pronounced dead,” he continued. “Afterward, we learned he was a famous singer. Unfortunately, the injuries he sustained from the fall were fatal, and there was no possibility of resuscitation.”
This update comes after reports indicated that police had been called to the hotel due to reports of an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”
It’s reported that the star was in the city to attend a concert by his former bandmate Niall Horan, and he had shared several posts from the evening on his social media accounts.
