On Friday night, 58-year-old Mike Tyson and 27-year-old Jake Paul faced off in the largest boxing match in America outside of Las Vegas.

With around 72,000 fans filling AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and an estimated 120 million streaming live on Netflix, it was clear that the world was eager to witness the legendary “Iron” Mike Tyson return to the ring for his first professional bout in 19 years.

Unfortunately, the fight didnโ€™t quite meet the high expectations.

After eight two-minute rounds, Jake Paul was declared the winner by unanimous decision, following a fight that was slow and, let’s be honest, rather dull.

Despite the lackluster action, the fight has sparked significant discussion on social media, and one surprising detail has emerged after the final bell: both fighters are now suspended from boxing.

Before you jump to conclusions, no rules were broken. Instead, the suspension is a precautionary measure for their safety.

Both Jake Paul and Mike Tyson have been ordered to take a break from boxing, thanks to a ruling from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the body responsible for overseeing the event.

According to The Mirror, both fighters have been given a minimum seven-day suspension to allow for proper recovery โ€” a standard precaution. However, there’s more: the board requires a three-day rest for each round fought, meaning theyโ€™ll be sidelined for a total of 24 days due to the eight rounds they completed.

Medical suspensions are common in boxing, as they prioritize the athletes’ health and safety. If either fighter feels ready to return sooner, they can contest the suspension through a hearing.

After last nightโ€™s performance, it might be a while before we see Jake Paul back in the ringโ€”if ever. And perhaps itโ€™s best for Mike Tyson to retire for good.

In fact, during the post-fight interview in the ring, Tyson gave a candid response when asked if heโ€™d return for another bout, saying, “I donโ€™t know. It depends on the situation. I donโ€™t think so.”

Elsewhere, many viewers have taken to social media platforms like X to criticize Netflix, with some even vowing to cancel their subscriptions.

The fight, which streamed live on the platform at no extra charge, attracted a huge audience. However, this also led to widespread frustration as many viewers were left staring at a rotating red circle due to buffering issues.
