Netflix Fans Rave Over Zombie Apocalypse Series And Say It’s ‘Better Than The Walking Dead’

Netflix fans are enthusiastically praising a new zombie apocalypse series, claiming it’s even better than The Walking Dead.

The first season of The Walking Dead, inspired by the comic book series of the same name, captivated audiences when it premiered in 2010, paving the way for multiple TV spinoffs and video games.

The series followed a group of survivors striving to stay alive amid the ever-present danger posed by zombies, referred to as “walkers.”

While many fans believe that no zombie apocalypse series truly captures the magic of The Walking Dead, some argue that there is one notable contender.

Enthusiastic about the lesser-known Netflix series, one fan declares, “In my opinion, this is the best zombie show ever made.”

Another fan states, “I really enjoyed this show. It has great characters, plenty of tension, and non-stop action.” A third comment reads, “It’s definitely underrated and absolutely worth watching!”

Another viewer comments, “So far, it’s what The Walking Dead should be.” The series has also garnered acclaim from the ‘King of Horror’ himself, Stephen King, who writes: “There are no lengthy, drawn-out discussions or endless flashbacks since there’s no backstory. No moody teenagers. The dialogue is minimal, and much of it is shot with a single handheld camera, creating a very fluid experience. Showrunners could learn a lot from this.”

In a piece for Decider, Kayla Cobb highlighted what makes this zombie apocalypse narrative unique, stating that it “drills into terror” and taps into people’s “secret fear.”

She wrote: “These stories rarely feature heroic, larger-than-life figures. Instead, they focus on ordinary individuals employing every resource they have to stay alive.”

“There’s no room for Shakespearean or Walking Dead-style monologues in the midst of it all; you’re too busy running for your life.”

The zombie apocalypse series, created by Karl Schaefer and John Hyams, features a cast that includes Jaime King, Justin Chu Cary, Christine Lee, Sal Velez Jr., Kelsey Flower, Erika Hau, Gwynyth Walsh, Mustafa Alabssi, Edsson Morales, and Zoe Marlett.

King takes on the lead role of Rose, a mother who becomes separated from her daughter, Anna, in the initial and perilous days of the apocalypse.

In her quest for survival, she aligns herself with a small group of refugees in North America.

Black Summer, a spinoff of Z Nation, consists of two seasons. Despite its popularity among fans, the series was regrettably canceled before a third season could be produced.

Co-creator Hyams confirmed the disappointing news when a fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, asked, “Season 3 of Black Summer or nah?” He replied, “Sadly, nah.”
