Sydney Sweeney shared a video on Instagram that featured body-shaming comments.
Sydney Sweeney has responded powerfully to the cruel body-shaming comments she’s been receiving online. Social media can be a toxic space, especially for celebrities, and some have even chosen to reduce their online presence as a result.
Recently, the Euphoria star has become a target for body shaming. She shared a short Instagram video, starting with screenshots of the hurtful comments she has faced, including remarks calling her “quite frumpy,” “very chunky,” and “tubby.”
After displaying the many hurtful comments in the screenshots, the video transitioned to Sydney Sweeney in her workout attire at the gym, taking control of the narrative with her powerful response.
The video then cut to a sign that read, “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard,” as Sydney Sweeney pushed herself in an intense workout session with a trainer. She hit a punching bag and even flipped a large tire, showing her dedication and strength.
The video quickly garnered praise in the comments section, with many expressing admiration for Sweeney’s response to the trolls. One user commented, “I will never understand the hate in peopleโs hearts when it comes to leaving comments like this.”
A second user added, “Ngl, why do people feel entitled to talk about someoneโs body, especially someone you donโt personally know?” while a third remarked, “No one has the right or reason to make comments on anyoneโs body, ever.”
Meanwhile, Riverdale star Lili Reinhart wrote, “Itโs always wild to see people publicly out themselves as pieces of shit with comments like that. You look incredible, and your dedication to your project is very inspiring.”
The video concluded with the name “Christy Martin” appearing on the screen, a nod to Sydney Sweeney’s upcoming role in a biopic where she plays the legendary female boxer.
Boxing fans will recognize Christy Martin as a former professional boxer who earned the WBC female super welterweight title in 2009.
Sweeney has previously discussed her process of preparing for the role, telling The Los Angeles Times in March that she’s a “very hands-on collaborator” when it comes to embodying her movie characters.
โI like being able to give ideas, be a part of it, help come up with solutions. It just changes the whole process,โ Sweeney shared.
She continued, โItโs so hard for me now to be on a set and not be able to help in any type of way and be able to take action. And being able to actually have a voice and have a valued opinionโit means so much.โ
