A rescue dog was heart-wrenchingly killed after a UPS driver allegedly threw a 55-pound package over a fence.
Naria Harutjunjan, who lives in North Hills, Los Angeles, U.S., rescued the adorable pup Lulu a year before the tragic incident, and during that time, they formed an incredibly close bond.
The last time she was with her beloved dog, Harutjunjan expressed her feelings to Lulu, saying (according to MailOnline): โI donโt know, Lulu, why, but I love you so much.โ
The Los Angeles resident is now sharing her story about the heartbreaking day her pet passed away, revealing that surveillance footage captured the driver during the delivery.
Around 5 p.m., Harutjunjanโs two dogs, Cookie and Lulu, were playing in the garden when a security camera from her next-door neighbor recorded a UPS driver approaching her home with a large package.
The delivery driver is accused of throwing a 55-pound parcelโover double Lulu’s weightโover the fence. According to reports, Harutjunjan’s Ring camera recorded the UPS driver squatting down and looking towards the gate afterward.
It remains uncertain whether the driver was aware that the dog was present when he allegedly threw the package over the fence.
When Harutjunjan went to call her two dogs back inside, she felt worried when only Cookie came back.
It wasn’t until she stepped outside that she was confronted with the horrifying scene. The dog owner recounted to KCAL News, โI picked up the package and saw my dog; she couldnโt move anymore.โ
She added, โMy neighbors were there, and they helped me take the dog to the Mission Hills clinic. But they said she had passed away.โ Heartbroken and in shock, Harutjunjan reached out to both UPS and Amazon about the alleged incident, stating that the latter facilitated the purchase.
UPS has issued a statement addressing the reports: โWe recently learned of the situation in North Hills. We are certainly concerned and will reach out to the customer. We will investigate and take appropriate action.โ
When approached by the New York Post, UPS did not provide details on whether the driver faced any punishment for the alleged action or if he violated company protocol by tossing a package over the fence. In light of the incident, Harutjunjan is now contemplating legal action against UPS, the driver, and Amazon.
This isn’t the first incident where a UPS driver has been accused of injuring a dog by tossing a heavy package.
In 2022, a delivery driver was allegedly seen throwing a packageโcontaining a wheelchairโover a gate in Florida.
Fortunately, the dog was unharmed in this incident.
The homeowner informed Fox 13 that they only learned about what happened because their security camera recorded the shocking event.
